FAT Music Festival
October 13 - 15, 2017

Curated by M WOODS, FAT Music Festival will present aural exhibitions by four of the most pioneering livehouses in the city: School, Temple, DDC, and fRUITYSPACE. Through this collaboration, M WOODS seeks to present a multi-sensory experience, featuring live music alongside video, projection, and visual art. Join us to break down the barriers between art exhibitions and musical performances, and to foster new ideas about what a museum can do for a city and its cultural life.

Music in the Museum
June 10, 2017

To mark the end of our spring show Cristof Yvoré: An Ode, M WOODS hosts Beijing legends Josh Feola (of pangbianr, Sally Can’t Dance, and Charm), Yan Yulong (Chui Wan), and Zhang Shouwang (Carsick Cars, White+) for a day of musical experimentation. From 1PM to late, the galleries are given to the interplay of senses, with our guests sharing sounds new and old in a site specific performance inspired and curated to accompany the exhibition.

While his entire creative output focuses on quiet motifs—the corners of rooms, vases, bouquets of flowers—Yvoré’s taste in music was distinctly loud, with an eclectic studio soundtrack including Suicide, Tuxedo Moon, Bauhaus, Joy Division, Metal Urbain, Hasil Adkins, Motörhead, Autechre, and many others that work in genres as distinct as heavy metal, New Wave, No Wave, drone, post-punk, minimal, and experimental and ambient electronica.

While the musicians swap sets, visitors are welcomed to explore the show with an additional dimension, reveling in the mutual influences of visual and musical disciplines recognized since times immemorial.

Mincemeat Party
Friday, March 23, 2018, 14:00-19:00
M WOODS Yard

The biggest cultural event to succeed the fireworks and fanfare of Chinese New Year, Beijing Gallery Weekend returns for its second edition, promising migratory artistic communities a showcase of the best the city has to offer.

Joining as a leader in the festivities once again, M WOODS is throwing a party to honor the recently opened exhibition Paul McCarthy: Innocence (Video Works 1970-2013).

Audiences are invited to M WOODS Yard for Beijing-themed refreshments that match McCarthy’s unapologetic adoration of the “low brow”: luzhu and baijiu cocktails. As day shifts to night, the museum welcomes visitors to explore 43 of the artist's video performance on view for the first in China.

Dorothy's Supper
July 1, 2017, 7:30 PM until late

Accompanying our latest exhibition, Heart of the Tin Man, Dorothy's Supper is a culinary experience curated by cartoonist and author Craig Ouyang, who, along with his team, has developed a menu to break the heat of the summer, including popsicles, beverages, desserts, and liquid nitrogen ice cream. Also joining the supper are Nature Things Tacos, Beiping Machine Brewery, Bubble Lab and other popular eateries, providing a host of foods and drinks to choose from.

More than food alone, visitors will enjoy the Creative Art Market (with Mega Vintage, BERRY BEANS, Colleen B+ Luya, Ty, 80’s Love, DreamCo, and FLOSO), experimental music by DJ Design and Lu Cheng, and an open-air film screening.
Package tickets are available on the official M WOODS WeChat. One museum ticket (purchased Saturday) will also give visitors free entry to the party. M WOODS Members enter free with a membership card.

Welcome to the Factory
Opening party for Andy Warhol: Contact
Friday, August 5, 8.00 - 11.00pm

To celebrate the arrival of Andy Warhol: Contact to M WOODS, the museum presents “Welcome to the Factory,” a party at 8.00pm on August 5, 2016 featuring three musical acts performing in response to the legend of Andy Warhol. The opening party takes place in M YARD, the museum’s outdoor space.

Welcome to the Factory” pays homage to Andy Warhol's infamous studio in New York. M YARD will be decorated as The Silver Factory, evoking memories of the place in which Warhol made many works and hosted notorious parties with his countless friends and Factory regulars.

Performing on the evening are: BEEP (USA), an experimental sound outfit, TOW (Beijing) and Sulumi (Shanghai). Local brewery Jing-A will run a bar and pop up stalls by Hatchery and White Tiger will be selling food throughout the evening.

Tickets cost 140 RMB including entry to the exhibition* and a limited edition Andy Warhol goodie bag. Tickets can be bought through M WOODS' WeChat account - accessible in the menu.
* The exhibition will not be open during the party

M WOODS x UBER

M WOODS is pleased to announce its collaboration with UBER in the lead up to the summer exhibition, Andy Warhol: Contact. A mobile space offering UBER users a preview experience of the exhibition launches in July 2016. M WOODS Co-founder Michael Xufu Huang said of the partnership, “M WOODS is a young organization, excited by the future and all that is happening to prepare us for it, in terms of art, design, technology, and digital culture. It is thrilling for us to partner with UBER, a brand we believe is paving the way towards the future of transport around the world. As the opening of our Andy Warhol summer exhibition draws nearer, this collaboration gives us an opportunity to reflect on the influence of technology on culture, whether in Warhol’s factory in the 1960s or within digital applications in Beijing today.”
